ORAUSA Holds 2022 Convention 

…Elects new board members

The Orlu Regional Assembly USA Inc., a socio cultural organization of Indigenes of Orlu zone resident in the United States of America has concluded its 2022 Annual Convention held in Houston, Texas from June 22 – June 26.

In a Communique issued at the end of the convention which was attended by delegates from their nineteen affiliates,  the Association resolved to continue with the Human and Infrastructural development programs it had initiated in Orlu zone over the years which included Annual Medical Mission, Homeland Summit, Youth Development, Micro Finance and ORA People’s Advocacy Committee  initiatives.

The release also disclosed other highlights of the convention to include   amendment of various sections of the ORAUSA Constitution and the election of new Board members to run its affairs for the next two years.

The convention also gave special awards to deserving individuals and groups among which was the 2022 Special Affiliate Award won by Houston, Texas (Ishi Mmiri).

The ORAUSA 2022 convention was well attended by over 800  people including members, their families and guests from within and outside USA.

The Governor of Imo State,  Senator Hope Uzodinma was ably represented by HRM, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya.

A former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa and other eminent sons and daughters of Orlu zone also graced the ORAUSA 2022 convention.

It was gathered that the convention started with a guided tour of the city of Houston which included visits to the US National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA) center and other landmarks such as the Stadia  and the Medical District to the admiration of the attendees.

Governore Uzodinma addressed the convention via zoom link and outlined the achievements of his administration in the areas of infrastructural development, health care, education and security. He also took time to respond to questions and concerns expressed by the audience on the insecurity situation in Orlu zone including the “stop work” sign placed by Orlu Local Government on the ongoing ORAUSA Multi purpose project site in Orlu town.

The Convention ended with a well attended Town hall meeting and Gala night after which the Annual convention hosting flag officially passed from Houston, Texas to the 2023 convention host, Baltimore, Maryland as ORAUSA   President, Dr Uzo Unegbu  (Omekannaya) thanked all participants and bade them farewell and safe return to their respective locations.
